Feeling under the weather

Hey all,
ick, I had A&W last night... well yesterday, then bologna wrap for supper.... and I feel really icky today. I don't know if it's the food? or the weather though? LOL It's been cold and cloudy and rained all day yesterday! WE did go to work, yes we drove up to Fosston, sat in the truck for 1.5 hours waiting for the rain to stop. It did. We got out. Took the tree(support) out of the roof we were working on, got in the roof. And it started drizzling, we put up a sheet, drizzle heavier, By the time we had 4 sheets up it was raining. It was a nice rain, if it was a better time of year for it. The Farmers don't want it, we bin builders don't want it!!! BRRRRRR and then it's a feels like -2c till 11am today, and then was only -1c at noon... not much warm up!!! So, between not feeling well and the cold we decided work will wait for us until tomorrow. I think this ick is probably a combo of the 2... mind you the food is a big part of it!!!

So, working on my hat in my nice little warm cozy home. LOL Hoping I have enough wool wound and don't have to go to the extension(chilly in there) to get another skein. Although I am betting I will have to make that trip... :P So be it!!!

Work and Mitten's

Hey, these are the mitten's that I made for my nephew. This is the beginning of the Hat/Toque I am making. I will be making a neck warmer yet too. Though the neck warmer will be ribbed all the way and striped more like the mittens. I will also put strips on the top of the hat!
This is the first Twister bin we have done. We have 4 to do. The diameter is 22 feet. See my itty bitty little car in the back of that one? The green step ladder you see is a 6 footer. LOL Finished this one Monday. Did a roof and a half today!

These are the parts and rockets for the next 3.
This is the big beautiful, yummy John Deere Tractor we get to use to put those 4 big bad boys up!! That is a big Bad Boy of a Tractor. Drives like a dream and has wonderful fast hydraulics(perfect for the crane)
This part of the pile of stiffeners that was on the pallet... 6 holes to fill at the top, 8 holes in the middle to join 2 tiers, then 2 holes to fill ahead of time for the next tier. Lotta holes to fill!
LOL these ones were an oops and didn't have any holes!! LOL Was a good thing we had some in the garage to replace them (from previous builds of these bins).
Other than all that I'm doing good. We apparently have a mole in the garden so don't know what we are going to get for veggies... could be interesting. Now off and running... see if I can get some more of that hat done!!

Grandma's Coat is done!!!

Hooray!!!! I finished it. I found the room and got the sewing machine out and finished the Jacket. For those of you whom don't remember, I took that backward flap off the pockets so she can now use the pockets, a lot easier... Now, long as I get to the city, grandma won't be cold!!

So, today it rained. Not what the farmers want, but what we got. So no combining, no bins today. So, did up my dishes(they sat a couple days as it was work late, eat, go to bed, get up, work late... you get it). Then I headed to Wadena. I then went to the Bargain shop, looking for suitable totes for my wool. They had some nice fabric, under the bed things that would have worked had I not found what I exactly wanted at the Co-op. I bought 4 large Rubbermaid containers and came home to put my wool away so I could find the table to put the sewing machine on, or something else should I have the need... LOL So, I proceeded to fill them... all 4 full and lots left over... well what did I have in that tote? Blankets.. well I guess they can come out go in a plastic bag for now and the wool will go in... then one that was about half the size, and two of those white kitchen size garbage bags. So in the porch I have, 5 large totes, 1 smaller tote and 2 white garbage bags, of that wool I bought this summer. Then there was the regular stash... LOL I will take pics of the totes later. Too tired now.. after doing that coat. Glad to be done it. Glad to have found my sewing table... :) Now just to squeeze in the "C" Sewing. around the knitting and other wonders that need to occur before December!

Ah well, that's it for now. I am off and running!

Recovery

Ok, now that I have recovered from my throw out. LOL Yes, It was very satisfying to throw it out at the time, but, at the same time very disappointing. But, now I have recovered and put a pair of mittens on the needles. I should be all good soon... I am on the row to put the thumb stitches on a holder and away I go... On the knitting road again.

I was in the fabric store on Saturday, they were having a big sale. I was disappointed they didn't have any pajama fleece. But I was bad and bought $50.00 worth of flannel for Jammie pant gifts and of course the 2 spools of thread I went in for. LOL yes I went in for 2 spools of thread, but bought 3 because the little snippet of colour I took to match up was kinda small and I couldn't tell if the lighter or the darker was better and since it was buy one get one I bought both and thought I would check it when I got home. And If i have an extra spool of thread.. so be it. So, when I feel like tackling the Jacket. I am ready!!

I threw it out!

Well, I did it. I tossed out that Dickie I made. Hubby tried it on for me and it was way tight on him. So I figured no problem, I will just frog back the neck and re knit it with little larger needles and maybe pick up a couple stitches in the re knit process. Which would have been fine. BUT! I broke the cord on my Denise circ first... dropped a bunch of stitches, fine(mad at cord but will persevere right?). So I put a new cord on, and went to stitching again, except that the damn cord came undone, fine, put the stitches back on the cord, try again... undoes again... ripped the bloody thing off the needles threw it in the garbage!!! then put the needles away. Now I think he will be getting a pair of socks or 2. So, be it. So a pair of socks is going on the needles next. :D

About finishing up.....

It was incredibly windy when we were trying to finish up in the yard. We didn't want any more down time, as we had already taken too long! So, Hubby decided we would tie up the bin. I was not overly enthused about it, though it worked and we got the bin up. Here are some pics of the bin's tethers. Above the bin is tied to the hopper cone... though you can not see the rope all that well it is there if you look hard. Below the bin is tied to the crane.

Above we tied the bin to the tow hook on the back of the car.... Later thoughts suggested we should have moved the truck and tied it to the truck, though the car did work. Below is the bin swinging in the wind to spite the ties to the crane, cone, and car. We tied it in the 4 corners so to speak so that it would not be able to swing too much in any one direction. It was just a wee bit windy at this point as you can see the side of the bin still touch the ground and the bin dancing in the wind.

This is another video though, the bin doesn't dance as much it still is dancing.

So that was finishing up in the yard in Outlook. After finishing that we went to do 2-19 foot Rosco's, which was putting another ring on and putting them on a hopper cone. Then we took Saturday afternoon off and went to the lake. Sunday we started at building 3-15', 5 ring bins with hopper cones and rockets. Sorry no pics of that. We also set a 14' bin on a wood floor then headed for home.... and that was our week.

Above is the Dickie I made(need to tuck in the ends) for my nephew. Below is a close up of the stripe on the Dickie.

This is the jacket I am altering. You see there was a flap on there(top picture) that was in the way of the pocket. So, I took the flap off(second pic). And now I need thread and I can sew it back together. All good!

Ahhhhhh..... hooooommmeeeee....

ahh feels good to be home. Yes I mean home. In my own bed tonight! Hooray!!!! and I start the task of putting the house back to living order.... hmm that means finding the bathroom under all of summers neglect.... doing laundry... vacuuming.... Dusting... grocery lists... ahh the work of being home.... feels soooo damn good!!!!!!!!

Now on another note... LOL I have to find my sewing/crafting room. I have a jacket to alter and Christmas sewing to get going on.... so big works in the work.. .and still bins to work on around home.... but at least at home!!!

These would be the socks I have been working on. Well, since I put the poncho down... LOL which was what... mid July... so not soooooo bad! LOL These ones I think will be a Christmas gift for the nephew. Hopefully he likes them..... being a teen and all. I am going to make him a hat, Dickie and mitten set for his birthday... which is on the needles next... soon as I figure out colours! Well enjoy the pics of the socks....

This one, shows how much my Kitchener stitch has improved... LOL I wonder if I could find that pair of socks that I made first and had nasty Kitchener happening..... I bet you all don't wanna see that anyways...... always nicer to see a nice Kitchener... :)

Home quick for a windy day today and tomorrow... nasty wind... errrrr.. ah well, back at work soon as the wind calms a bit or we tether the bin... we shall see.

This was a row of, 6-18' diameter bins with air tube, and 7-15' diameter bins with air tubes. they were hauled out faster than we could finish the row for a good pic... LOL
This one was a row of 5-15' diameter bins(no air), and 4-18' diameter bins no air in 2, rockets in the 2 that are not in the photo, they were delivered already!! Boy the Toyota looks tiny next to the bins!!!

If the trees and town were not there you would see the rain streak coming! It dropped some good rain, and some pea sized hail... for hmmm 20minutes er so in the afternoon. Then in the eve it did it from Midnight til... at least after 2 er 3. Was a good rain with a few Hail dumps... mostly pea size.. some that hit hard but didn't do any damage to what we were up to... Farmer's may have a diff story though!

Bin Moving.....n such

Well, The weather has not been co-operating. If it is not hotter than hell, then it's raining cats and dogs or blowing the cows around!!! We didn't get much done today and yesterday... little slow moving in the wind. Just the way it is. (though frustrating for us!)

We did get this bin done today, and yesterday.... fought with the wind most the way! We did have another done, that was hauled out as fast as we finished it... so were to be 4 in the row... 2 to go!!

Also found this little nest of babies under the hopper cone! Them birdies sure like making their nests in the hoppers!




I am still working on the blue wool socks.... With the weather one would think I got further along... but been in and out and such... not much time to work on them.. though I am past the heel turn on the second sock!! Very exciting!!! Pics will follow!!

Garden

These are the onions I got off my garden this year(one is yellow onions the other is spanish, not that I can currently tell the diff). I braided them up, so that I could hang them to dry. I wanted to hang them as I will not be around to keep them turned and drying evenly. I am hoping this looks something like what my Great Grandma used to do for drying them..... Hey MOM! am I at least close???? Ah well hoping this works and that I will have nice yummy dry onions when I get home. :) As for Zucchini and Cucumber.. .I hope they stay cool enough that they are happy till I am home... we are taking some but not all :) Anyhow... off and running!!

Garden and this and that

Hey,
Apparently we got horrid hail here yesterday! It did only come through the North side of town. It took out windows and windshields. James and I's home and garden is all good except the onions that were all laid out. I pulled them and braided them up now they are hanging. I will try and post pictures later. We did harvest a lot of zucchini and cucumbers too.. as well as Kohl Rabi. Yum... and we had fresh garden potato's with cucumber for supper.

We made a quick trip home today for mail and laundry. I am not sure whats up from here.

Thank you for the comments on the baby booties. I guess if they are too big at birth then... she can wear them later. I think I will put a ribbon in the booties though... not sure exactly how but will show you when I get to that.

I have a pair of blue wool sockies on the needles right now.. still working on the first one as work is somewhat time consuming.. LOL and it's hard to knit when your shoulders hurt from putting up roof sheets. I put the poncho down.. too hot. I want to make more booties sometime too... wash cloths too.....

I want to take some pictures of the bins in the yard but they are going out just about as fast as we are putting them up so, I have a video of the bin going onto the trailer that I hope to post but we shall see if I can figure out how to put up the video. :)

The booties

Hey, I decided to try out a booties pattern.... LOL I tried the Bernat Baby Cotton ones. They are supposed to fit from newborn to 6 months. I think mine are a little big. I am wondering if I were to wash them, if it would shrink them so they would look like baby booties? I knew when I started I should have used smaller needles.... or at least do the swatch, but I hate the swatch. So now my booties are just a wee bit big. *shrugs* Maybe baby(not mine) will have big feet? Never know, but I am doubting that too. The base of the booties foot only measures 3 inches. Am I in the right ball park?

Think I may try a different pattern or smaller needles for the next pair.... LOL

HOtter than Hell!!!

Hey all,
James and I have switched to nights. OI. Except tonight which is, last we checked at 11pm still 39 degrees Celsius with the humidex... OI. Too hot!!! When the Humidex is up to 36 to 44 plus degrees Celsius, we don't want to play. The steel in the daytime adds to the heat too. Mind you I bet it's still a bit warm from the heat of the sun beaming down on it all day today too. It's a hard transition. We worked last night from 8pm to 11am this morning.... LOL had a farmer pull in to the bin yard and ask about bins... fine, then asks with the heat if we were going to work in the afternoon... I told him no way!!! LOL James thought I should have told him I been their since 8pm the night before so not bloody likely to stay up much longer!!! *giggles* Man, sometimes I wanna ask them if they wanna work around that steel when its 44 degrees... then add the reflection of the steel to that... much hotter!!! Crazy guys don't think about that though... but then again.. could be like the comedian who does the "here's your sign" I tell ya sometimes we could hand out a lot of signs... LOL like when you get a guy pull in the yard and ask, "you building these bins?" just wanna say, "Nope just walking around with a pouch full of bolts for the exercise...." LOL *sighs* I guess it's all part of the service industry. I try to answer their questions as best I can, but that's the customer service side of me I suppose.... Hubby sometimes gets very frustrated. Today when he was baking in the cone he said I should have told the guy to go to the Co-Op and ask there as I had a guy cooking on the inside of that bin. I figured I could put in bolts and answer questions at the same time... guess it must have slowed me some. *shrugs* I didn't think I slowed. So last night we built 2 bins complete. We started with 2 roofs and then put the sidewalls on 2 bins. We wanted to finish the 3rd bin too but it got hot early. And it's still hot now... oi..

As far as crafting. I have a "Christmas project" on the needles right now. I hope to finish the first half soon then can cast on the second part and stitch it together. I then think I might do some small baby things... I also have some socks to get done... hmmm maybe should do sockies first? shall see.

MORE WOOL!!!

Yes, I'm crazy. Very crazy. I am wondering what on earth I will make with all this wool!!! Briggs and Little was having an anniversary sale!!! I could get 1 skein for every 2 I purchased at regular cost. Now, I purchased a lot! You have seen the pictures!!! LOL So, I hummed and hawed and couldn't decide how much of this awesome blue twist I wanted. So, Hubby decided for me. I could get 110 skeins of the anniversary special color, and so that is what he ordered!!! That is 55 pairs of socks.... er maybe I can find something else to make too!!! I have been dreaming about it since we picked it up at that post office today. Yes today. We made an impromptu trip home. Lightning storm in Outlook this morning. Figured just as well to make the trip home, grab the mail, do some stuff around, go see what the Plow wind and hail did at the farm. So, that's what we did! Got my wool!!! Whooo hoooo! Went to see how the landscape changed at the farm. Looks different when you take down a couple trees and ooh 3 bins! All is well so far though. Nobody hurt, just 3 bins that will probably be written off and an auger out of the picture. Came close to taking out the tractor! But, it didn't, thanks to the auger!! go figure.

*sighs* Back to work in the morning... will keep you posted. In this heat we have 7 done, one ready to mount and 22ish to go... oi! Hopefully this weather smartens up!!!!

I also want to say THANK YOU! to all who wished me an hubby a Happy Anniversary on the 16th! We had a good, hot day! LOL (built one bin, melted in the heat so hid in the air conditioning)

Mm hmm I know that sounds so lovely... I did something silly today. I went and put some wedding pictures up on Face book. Yeah, I was going through them. I was thinking about how Kevin took much better pictures than the woman we hired. He took beautiful pictures, and the woman we paid took shitty shadowy ones. *shrugs* I guess, all water under the bridge now, but I got to missing M and Kev. I definitely need to call them next trip to the city... if not before. I was also thinking about how I have a tonne of pictures of James and I, we look so happy, so fresh. Full of hopes and dreams you know. Then I see pics of me with the family, Grandma P is missing, and man do I miss her. I miss being able to call her up. I look at the pic and Grandpa K is there... and I miss him too.

James is at the farm working on the combine... hopefully he can figure what he needs to do to fix it.

I am knitting on a poncho, wondering about the point of it.

Hey, I finished my socks. Yes, MINE! LOL special just for me!!! Very nice, though very red. I like them and they are done. Now, I just have to be patient waiting for this 30 degree Celsius to be in the negative then I can wear them. LOL I am not hoping for it!!! I am just saying cooler for woollies.... It's darn well hot enough without them now!! A bit cooler would be nice but I am not ready for winter again yet... though if the sticky heat keeps up I might be wishing for it soon!! So below is the picture of my socks done!

I got a comment from a Deb. I don't know which one as I don't get to get your email addresses with the comments..... *sighs* so, Deb, you ignore your poor little Christmas cactus.... neglect it for ... hmmm was it about a month? I think.... er something like that. Mine gets neglected a lot as we are away working a lot!! So, I potted it from a little pot into this big pot and then took off for 3 weeks er so and came home and it was blooming... beautiful blooms... Damn cactus is the only plant I can keep alive around here....because it loves neglect... or is it that it loves to dry out? hmm well, drying out and neglecting worked well. Putting it in a new pot, made it grow like crazy so must like the new space... So to answer your question that was what I did.

I am home for a couple days. So maybe will get some pics of the garden, outside so you all can see what mother nature has blessed me with, as I just planted and hoped it would grow.

I haven't seen my yarn yet. I am imagining that with the long weekend. Canada day and all that the mail got shuffled... Least I hope the box gets here while I am home this trip. *fingers crossed*

And that is my excitement. Other than spending the last 2 days at the lake while hubby built roofs in the heat in the yard. I got to sit in the shade and dunk in the lake while he built roofs. I just couldn't take the heat... so I am melting ... but, slowly so I have lots of time left no worries there!!

I forgot to also tell you I tried to start a poncho... I am growling at it now... so it is not starting well... plain red heart yarn but it seems too stiff.... grrr.... ah well... may have to go another route... *shrugs* so be it. still makes me mad though....
